Bin Wu -- I can do all things...

"I Can Do All Things..."

These words that Steph Curry put on his shoes have become my newest favorite. Although I'm a web developer who works on both front end and back end, I'm not saying that I'm a kick-ass full stack developer that gets everything done single handedly :) But by telling myself that I can do all things, I make myself take any challenges, not only those in my career but also those in my life in general.

Projects

Like I built this personal site to get my feet wet when I saw Material Design Lite coming out (the old bootstrap version is here), I don't hesitate to start a project when I get interested in some cool stuff or when I have some ideas flash through my mind. Some of the projects may be silly or will never be finished... but I enjoy spending my spare time doing these. I'm listing a few of them below.

HuCha - A Chrome Extension for Hupu.com Jan 2015

This Extension was written at leisure to make the my own experience at bbs.hupu.com better. Surprisingly, it had over 800 downloads in just a couple days after I simply posted a thread on the website (Hupu) itself. Hupu.com is similar to Reddit but with only sport section. Some of the features are:

  • Anti-censoring. It's well known that some words are censored on Chinese Internet. I figured out a little hack to unveal the content to its original version on Hupu.com.
  • Black List. Hide threads or comments posted by the users you don't favor.
  • Pattern Matching. Fold up comments in long abusive language.

Research Explorer June 2009 – July 2011

UT Dallas's portal of showcasing research and work by professors, research facilities and various departments. I was working in a team environment as a part time web developer while studying at UT Dallas. The tech stack was LAMP(php), and the front end was simply HTML and jQuery. No front end framework was used back then.

H-E-B Data Manager July 2010

Our team was the winner of the H-E-B University Developer Challenge. A sample database was given to us and the requirement was to implement data visulization. We ended up with a full system that has user login /logout module, user account module that renders user's spending in store, search module and data visualization module. The tech stack was PHP + JQuery + Highcharts + MySQL

Source code is available on github.

And More...

Wow glad you made it here, seems you are really interested :)

AAPL vs GOOG

One day I came up which this idea to let two rival companies fight in the game "Street Fighter" with their stock market performances. Basically the more bullish stock has a higher possibility to make a "right" move. There's still bugs like fighters not jumping naturally and not able to detect a draw game, I'll try fix those when I have time :) Oh and it's not mobile friendly :(

Relationship graph of "Water Margin"

"Water Margin" is one of the most famous Chinese ancient literatures. Over 100 main characters are covered in 100 chapters. When I was reading this book, I often got confused by the characters' relationships, like whom is whose leader, whom and whom used be close friend etc... So I experimented a bit of D3.js and created a graph to represent the relationships.
